Our friend from Rinella Scout Campsite with whom we shared accommodation for 2 weeks…

15 days a superb bunch of Scouts and Explorers, a fabulously hot country and not a single drop of rain, not one, nope totally dry…

Every single day was almost exactly the same: unbearably hot from around 8am, blue skies and temperatures like Britain has never ever seen in its life. In fact, the temperature in Bristol upon arriving home late Thursday afternoon was a pleasant 21 degrees – quite substantially colder than overnight in Malta.

There was however, one horrendous occasion in week two, upon sitting on the beach and lounging in the sea when a few clouds dared to venture into Maltese air space. Amid cries of shock and surprise from the beach goers the sun soon saw them off and they were never to be seen again.

The programme highlight was definitely scuba diving, with the excellent Buddies Dive School in Bugibba. Fighting it out in second place was the high ropes in Ghajn Tuffiea and a surprising entry of the Playmobil factory tour. A disappointing low-light was the Palace Armoury – seen one spike you’ve seen them all!

The Maltese people were lovely, with so many involved in Scouting and interested in our trip. Numerous people approached us to chat and help us out. Special commendation goes to the excellent Scouters and Scouts at Tarxien Scout Troop who came to join us one evening (and a few others after that!!) they helped us out throughout our stay, all kicked off with an excellent chicken dinner when we arrived.

Many thanks once again Tarxien Scouts for your fantastic support!
