Star City Trek 2008
The winners of the Cabot District Star City Hike 2008 ~ US!
Yes, the simply superb 62nd Lemmings team romped home in a more than convincing 1st place, 10 points ahead of those in 2nd place. Comments from the bases included:
“Excellent teamwork”
Congratulations yet again, you see, all that effort and getting wet was worth it after all!
Well, there’s a surprise, another wet, windy and truly miserable night of weather for yet another 62nd Scout event.
It has to be a record.
We arrived back to base at Mendip Raceway at 4:30am, the sun, sorry the grey cloudy morning was starting to rise, at the same time as the heavens opened. We could see the finish in the distance, but the rain was so heavy we just got wet, nay soaked, nay dripping…
Upon returning to Bristol I heard on BBC 5Live that Lizzie ’someone or other’ from BBC Newsround started the 3 peaks challenge at 4:30 am this vary same morning. She was 20 mins off the summit of Ben Nevis, with Scafell Pike and Snowden to do in a total of 24 hours. Good luck to her, I’ll stop in with my cup of tea and squashed BLT sandwich thank you.
The 62nd ‘Lemmings’ team were brilliant of course. Major achievements include not moaning at all, good on you all. Getting a whopping 23 radioactive balls into the safety dump, another team managed nought. All the team standing on a rather small piece of newspaper, rather impressively so. Navigating around the Mendips at night in a stonking time. Congratulations to you all, I’m rather proud, sniff…
Oh ~ surviving that field of horses and cows was pretty good too. Especially that bloomin great big white beasty with the simply enormous, yes enormous, horns! I’m so glad he stepped out of the way (and that Dave was in front…)
Thank you to you all and also to the organisers – much obliged.
