Day 1: The journey begins! After a 2am start for our early flight, we breezed though Amsterdam, and arrived in Rotterdam in very good time. Then it was time to get the bikes! Scouts looked slightly horrified by their traditional Dutch bikes, most of which had no hand brake, only a strange pedal backwards to brake system!! However it ended up being the best day ever, as we trundled through the wonderfully flat, super bike friendly Netherlands with relaxing ease, generally loving life (even if Clive was a bit tired!). We got a LOT of strange looks, as we cycled by in our bright orange shirts and helmets (never worn in the Netherlands) – was very easy to spot the brits abroad!
We had the pleasure of revealing the new Friday troop SPL – congratulations to Ian Taplin, thoroughly deserved! A massive BRAVO to out outgoing SPL, Ben, who’s done an ace job!
Also had time to take a lovely group photo – as we look far smarter and cleaner than we will at the end of next week. Note our lovely camp t-shirts – don’t we all look smart!
All feeling knackered after nearly 24 hours awake – we’ll be sleeping well tonight I think!
