Namaste Nepal
We were treated to a night run by scouts of old, focused around their recent trip to Nepal. Emily, Matt, Ben and James were luck enough to be part of the 2018 Jungle Jamboree. They spent 16 days with the Namaste Nepal Cabot unit, first flying to Kathmandu, staying in the historic Thamel quarter. They also visited the world heritage sites of BoudhaNath, SwayambhuNath and PashpartiNath, before travelling to Meghauli.
In Meghauli, they assisted in the running of the Jungle Jamboree, a camp for the local Scout Groups, visiting health improvement projects and taking part in an elephant safari in the jungle!
After a week in Meghauli they travelled to Pokhara – Nepal’s second city and gateway to the massive Annapurna mountain range. From here they embarked on a high-level trek into the mountains staying in the famous Nepalese Tea Houses along the way.
An inspiring evening, and superbly well run too!
We also had the privilege of inviting back (yes, more!) ex-scouts Josh and Leah to receive their fully deserved Chief Scout’s Gold Award. Throughout their 4 years in the troop, their enthusiasm and help has never gone unnoticed, and it was great to acknowledge this through the Gold award.
