Expedition 2015
A fabulous overnighter with a great bunch of our older generation Scouts. All of them completed the task laid before them – well done all of you!
Things I have learnt from this camp (in no particular order…):
Scouts are resilient little devils.
It can be really very warm at the very end of October.
Scout pace – even when they’re tired and loaded with full kit – can be still very fast for a 40 something…
Conygres Campsite in Wotton Under Edge is a lovely little place.
Buying ‘nice’ and ‘appropriate’ food for an expedition is tricky.
Porridge is disgusting without some sort of flavour.
Scouts don’t listen to advice from their olders… but once you get to know them, teenagers really are lovely people with a heart of gold.
No one did carry that full bottle of cooking oil (shame).
I simply cannot compete with Nick’s selfies – they’re sooo much better!
I’m loving photos of pumpkins around a campfire (as you will see)!
When you ask in all seriousness: ‘right, what would Bear Grylls do?’ everyone replies: ‘book into the nearest hotel’.
A bottle of mouthwash is essential kit apparently.
Scouts can find their way to checkpoints whilst carrying full kit and being tired and dripping in sweat – but have no idea how to get home…
