“Swimmy swimmy swim swim!!”
As we were only a few hundred metres from the beach, we really made the most of it. This included an early morning *paddle every day, a challenge accepted by about 15 of the craziest scouts and leaders, who managed to get their swimming stamp for every morning we were on camp! We even rushed down for a quick dip the days we had to leave site early, leading to a 6.15 swim one morning. But it was well worth it, in fact it was breathtaking, but that was more due to the temperature of the sea than anything else. Nothing like a group of shrieking scouts and leaders to ruin the quiet serenity of the Cornish coast at the crack of dawn! This was followed by an even colder shower under the waterfall – I don’t think we’ve ever been this clean on camp! Badges and massive kudos to follow for the brave swimdicate…
However there were still plenty of chances for a dip during the week, so that those who weren’t mad enough for the early morning swim were still able to enjoy our almost private beach during the daytime, when it was considerably warmer! We also played an excellent game of nighttime spotlight on the beach, which worked surprisingly well, with the rocks and verges providing excellent cover from torchlight.
