Malta 2013
Mdina
“I give you good price… I give you good price… and you sir… I give you free…” Wink…
I guess we got a good price, she never actually said what the price was, only that it was a good one.
The ancient walled city of Mdina went down well, exploring the tiny, narrow walled city and admiring the spectacular view. Prior to this we trundled down to Rabat to visit the Grotto of St Paul, a place of pilgramage to Catholics worldwide, including Pope John Paul II and more recently Pope Benedict. It is thought to be where Apostle Paul sought shelter when we was shipwrecked on Malta and thus where Christianity started on the island. Of course there was no church there then…
As a bonus the Catacombs and WWII underground shelters have recently been refurbished and reopened, great fun exploring those. Sadly, the main part of the church was locked and there was no little man standing outside the Grotto to explain its significance.
Mdina involved two film show ‘experiences’ very interesting, but again – air conditioned and conducive to napping, unless your chair was broken and you kept sliding off the end. The tour around the wax works also proved entertaining, not least because of dodgy sound systems.
The end of Mdina day was spent in cafes and stocks…
On route home we popped into the Scout shop and took over the place, bought lots of badges, kneckers and caps etc. The Malta Scout shop is rearkably like the good old Outdoors Shops in Britain from 10 years ago.
