Summer Camp 2011<\/span> <\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Saturday 13th August until Saturday 20th August 2011<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0Sadly, due to a lack of Scouts numbers were severly depleted for our lowest attended Summer camp ever. Lower even than our first ever camp 11 years ago. Still, not to be detered we carried on regardless with a ratio of 2 leaders to every Scout!<\/span><\/div>\n

We started early on a Saturday morning from Horfield Parish Church, and crammed our kit and ourselves into cars for the three hour trip to a super-stoked week of adventure! On our summer camp this year we had Dan, Dave, Daisy, Mike, Jeff, Nick, Tim, Clive, Hanne (visiting from Belgium), Adam, Jonty, Shauna, Oscar, Catrin, me and of course Nigel Bubl\u00e9 the dolphin! <\/span><\/p>\n

When we arrived in Pembrokeshire, near St Brides Bay, we were greeted by 3 pink cottages next to an old fortification, and through a gate we found ourselves in an orchard with a fire circle and camping area. We unloaded the slightly unreliable Daisy Van and put up the tents: four two-man tents and some larger three or four-man tents, as well as our traditional mess tent and a supplies tent. After we had unpacked, we went down to the beach which was a free National Trust property, a beautiful stretch of sand and rocks in a small bay. It was getting late so we couldn\u2019t stay for long, but still managed a quick bit of crabbing. We had supper cooked on the fire, true Scouty style, with Tesco Value rice bolognese as they had run out of spaghetti, but it was delicious anyway. Then we played German Spotlight on the beach in the dark.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the week, we did loads of amazing things like beaches, walks, Pembrokeshire castle, Skomer Island Nature Reserve, sea kayaking, rafting, coasteering (jumping off rocky heights into the water) and a fair bit more crabbing! It really was a super-stoked adventure-packed week of excitement! Everyone enjoyed it fully, and everyone tried to do everything – even Nigel Bubl\u00e9! Everyone had a favourite bit (mine was doing the highest five metre jump in coasteering) and everyone defeated a fear. Crazy Chris (our District Commissioner) visited for a day which was great fun! We sang camp songs and listened to his rendition of Cecil the Caterpillar. Every day we woke up excited for the day ahead because whatever you were doing you knew it would be an excellent day! It was another fantastic camp.<\/span><\/p>\n

Which affected history more than any other castle… apparently. Henry VII was born there and 62nd visited.<\/span><\/div>\n
