Plitvice National Park
I’m not quite sure what I enjoyed most, the fact that Plitvice lakes “are recognized as an astonishing natural monument” and are an “experience of a lifetime” or the simple fact that most of the Scouts truly resented a 5 hour coach trip across Croatia to see “a few waterfalls“.
(The journey mind you was through several road tunnels one being 5km long, and massive coastal scenery and road architechture to impress Brunel himself. Not to mention the road into Plitvice with its war marked damaged buildings and mine fields to either side, a sobering site for anyone).
As the day progressed, however, and the scenery continued relentlessly, even the most hardened Scout was starting to appreciate everything around them.
The end of the day, in what was probably one of our hottest days so far, was topped off with a sweaty land train ride back to our coach park. The smell in that carriage was quite something.
…I’m still having councilling and now have an obsession with smelling salts.
To finish on the main part of the day though, Plitvice, was indeed incredibly beautiful. Crystal clear lakes teeming with fish, waterfalls, wooden walkways…
