Belgium 2008
Home Hospitality and a Pleasant Day in the Belgium Countryside…
Full of eager anticipation and a few slight nerves from everyone we linkied up with the excellent people from Socuting Poperinge late Friday night. It turned out that none of them had anything to worry about they were all looked after exceptionally well with most not wanting to come home…
On the Saturday it was an early start as we were all expected to meet near some local woods at rather early morning time. It rained. In fact the only times it stopped raining were during lunch, when we were in a barn keeping cosy and shortly after the last the group finished. 62nd tradition continues into Europe, simply unavoidable.
The highlight of the day was split into several sections:
-
Walking along a straight Belgium country road in the middle of nowhere countryside, in the wind and pouring rain, pushing a wheelbarrow and wearing a silly green army hat…
-
Pushing, ok carrying, said wheel barrow across an extremey muddy ploughed field with shoes like lead weights
-
Walking through the Poperinge Sewers (actually we avoided that treat due to fast flowing water…)
-
Watching Dave get soaked whilst pretending to be a British Airman waiting to be rescued (where was the other one!? …and did he have the picture of the Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies by Van Klump discreeted about his person in a big sausage!?)
This could arguably have been the best day of the trip!
