Summer Camp 2012 Jubilee

Summer Camp 2012

 Jubilee Celebrations

It would have been rude not to join in some sort of Jubilee celebrations, after all it’s not every year the Queen celebrates 60 years on the throne. The original plan was to join in with the good people of Lyme Regis for their grand tea party on Marine Parade, however the Scouts got so distracted by fossils on Charmouth beach we held it in a car park in Lyme regis instead. The Queen would have been proud we carried on!

Part of the tea party were scones, with posh cream and jam, never would we have thought how popular they would be…

We then made our way down into Lyme, past the dodgy underwear shop where Clive had previously haggled for car park change (allegedly) and sat on the beach enjoying the flotilla of boats. Just a few less than the Thames I believe! Chips followed and then a hasty retreat to the campsite, no-one being that keen to hang around in the cold and drizzle for the beacon lighting!

Royal Visitors

We were especially priviledged to welcome the entire Royal Family, including Her Majesty herself and the PG Tips monkey, to flag break one evening. After lots of photos they were whicked away to another engagement.

Commonwealth

The Commonwealth was commemorated on the last evening in a trimmed down version of our original plan, everything else having been over trodden by rain showers and wind. Some excellent costumes were turned out for dinner of that Commonwealth classic dish of spaghetti and meatballs…
