Campsite and Report – Days 8 & 9
Days 8 and 9: The final chapter. Friday morning was an extraordinarily efficient session of taking down all canvas and dismantling most of camp, leaving up just the event shelters for the scouts to sleep under overnight! Then those who wanted to popped into Delft for a couple of hours, to do some last minute exploring and gift buying!
We bumped into some Explorers from Oxford, who we got a picture with, and George did a necker swap! There also happened to be free Lipton Ice Tea’s being handed out, which of course we made the most of, all having at least 2 each – scouts NEVER refuse a good freebie!
Back on site, (spot the gold hair) it was time for a BBQ, using all of our finely chopped wood (choppers were carefully supervised at all times by a leader and a captive scout audience!).
Then it was time for perhaps the most eagerly anticipated moment of camp; the King Kubb final. It was an epic showdown between the leaders and the Two Lips patrol. Spectators watched on with bated breath as the intensity was ramped up to 100% (no really!). What’s more amazing is the fact that the leaders were the victors without even cheating for once! An excellent performance from the Two Lips for taking part in a King Kubb finale that will go down as one of the greats in the history books.
We finished our fun and frolics with a hearty campfire. As an early birthday celebration, we presented Seb with his mini cake (which did suffer a tad in transit back to site!!) and card, signed by all of us on camp. He was then lucky enough to be able to blow out his makeshift candle! All went to bed in good spirits.
Congratulations to the Windy Millers, the winning patrol! Final day was a frantic day of travel, best summarised by Clive’s new woggle which simply reads ‘das stressen’. However the scouts were all fab, so no complaints there!
Just remember to always take your passport off the plane with as well as on it…
A mahoosive thanks to everyone who came on camp. With such a great bunch of people to spend a week with it went by far too quickly! Definitely be a trip to remember, and hope everyone had as much of an awesome time as I did!
