Glenny Woods 2008

Glenny Woods 2008

Friday 23rd May until Monday 26th May 2008

It’s been a while since we have visited good old Glenny Woods, however we aim to correct this in May this year. A traditional campsite is planned with tradtional activities, cook for yourself, wash up for yourself, put your tent up for yourself, goodness gracious – we’ll even let you eat yourself… as in eat yourself – not be spoon fed… just give up now…

“Another miserable UK day” was the headline on the weather forecast, they were not joking, infact it was two miserable UK days, made worse by the fact that a ton of canvas had to come down.

Mega congratulations and thanks to the Scouts for their help and lack of whinging, except about the weather of course. Everyone, without exception, got on with whatever they were asked to do. A big thanks also to the parents that came back up to the hut to help unload and hang sodden canvas.

I personally cannot remember a time when the canvas was this wet, Dave walking into the hut carrying a tent over his head with a waterfall cascading down, together with pools of water when re-opening the dining shelters is stuff of legend…

Still, from one epic canvas adventure to another, getting it all dry before the AGM next Monday. Despite all this it was a most enjoyable camp.

Oh, and we did a spot of caving…
