Mud Runner 2021

Mud Runner 2021

Friday 24th September to Sunday 26th September

It wasn’t Covid restrictions that stopped us but the cancellation of Mud Runner itself that put a spanner in the works.

Undeterred, we carried on regardless. A few team games Saturday morning, including an enjoyable game of human battleships and a bizarre game involving buckets. Needs a little adjustment that one!

Ledbury was delightful, a young lad named Dave offered to pay for our parking after a little confusion of people called Dave. This was followed up by a lovely lady offering her parking ticket and as for the swimming pool people…

…best swimming pool hire ever! Cheap, lovely, lovely people and Scout badges completed with plenty of extra time for free mess around. Bonus afterwards was exhausted Scouts, they had swum 16 lengths of the pool, to be fair. Thank you Ledbury swimming pool.

Sunday was the fake Mud Runner event. Unable to attend Eastnor castle, we brought it to Warren Oak. Two paddling pools of fake powdered mud and powdered green snot was the highlight. A few extra obstacles slotted in and we were ready. 10 times around was 5k, equivalent to the official Mud Run. 4 steely Scouts managed it with Ethan coming in first. we will forgive the others though as there was plenty of distractions, namely the mud and snot!

A hose down and home. Plenty of unexpected fun from a near cancellation. Can’t be bad!

From a couple of Scouts:

The 62nd Scouts went on the mud runner weekend on the weekend of 24-26 September this year.
We went to the Warren oak scout campsite in Ledbury by minibus. The minibus with scouts and leaders arrived before the supplies van so we had to go for a walk to kill time until we could put up the tents and have dinner.
There were 14 of us scouts and 7 leaders there.
We went swimming to do our swimming badge tasks and did a lot of fun activities, like tarp pulling and chair bridging.
The actual mud runner event was cancelled so we made our own one. We ran a 5km run which was 10 laps around a lap with 2 slime baths and a crawl through net.
The weather was good and it didn’t rain. The food was nice and I enjoyed it. It was so much fun, I would like to come again next year. Thank you to the leaders for  organising this awesome weekend

This year wasn’t the official mud runner since the actual one got cancelled. But us scouts weren’t going to let that stop us.
When we got to mud runner we walked around the camp site to see where we where staying, then in the dark we put our tents up. After a long hour we where able to get our bags and set up our beds.
On the first day we had breakfast then a bit of free time, then we did activities. One of the best activities we did was human battle ships. We positioned ourselves in different positions and then both teams took turns throwing a wet towel over a wall!
On the last day did the mud runner. We ran through slime, got soaked and very tired.
At the end we got dressed, packed up and went home.
